Out now! WHAT WOULD THE COMMINITY THINK?

When I shot this series I explored the back yards in my home town Munich. My head was full of stories of what might be going on behind these windows and doors. We live in a society where the private life becomes more and more a public catwalk. Everybody can take part in the highs the lows and in betweens of other peoples lives.

But at this point most of the time we get to choose what we want to share and what not. People share the things that make them look good, sophisticated, successful – whatever they want the world to think about them. But will it always stay this way? Will a closed door in the future still mean nobody gets to see what we do, say or feel? Every move you make has to be a conscious decision. You have to keep in mind: "What would the community think?".

TOKYO SLEEPS

Fresh out of the camera! I just came back from Tokyo, Japan.

Tokyo is the biggest city in the world and counts around 37 million people. I wanted to picture the city away from the famous hot spots like Shibuya or the Tokyo Sky Tree. I ended up in residential neighborhoods in Minato City. It’s that part of the city where actual real life people live and hang out – or not. Unlike most stories that I have seen about Tokyo before these parts of the city are simply empty at night time. I guess it makes perfect sense – most of the folks have to go work the next day, just like everywhere else in the world. I found a city that sleeps.

NEW SERIES: WASHING DRUMS

I’ve been living in the same street in Munich for 15 years now. I didn’t have my own washing machine so I had to go over street to do my laundry. I’ve always liked to go there and have some time to watch people doing their stuff or to listen to music.

The place that I went to was a kind of left over 60’s style but was also mixed up with some elements of the 80’s. I always wanted to shoot it and when I finally took the time to do it I really couldn’t come up with something that caught the atmosphere of the place I wanted it to show. The only thing that hit me was a shot of the inside of a washing drum. I have never paid attention to washing drums before but I decided to make a small series – and here it is. >>> click
